What’s In a Name?
A big part of the process when creating an LLC is deciding what to name it. I knew that step one of this new venture was actually creating the LLC, but when it came time to select a name - something I will be stuck with for the (hopefully very long) life of my business - I stopped short.
I wanted something that was meaningful, but not kitschy; spiritual, but not overt; personal, but not sappy. So naturally, I turned to scripture.
I love the living Word of God because it truly is alive. If you have been through enough, and I imagine all of you have, then you know that certain scripture passages will speak to you at different times in your life. For me, the scripture that has continued to echo in my heart during this time is Jeremiah 17:7-8, “Blessed are those who trust in the Lord; the Lord will be their trust. They are like a tree planted beside the waters that stretches out its roots to the stream: it does not fear heat when it comes, its leaves stay green; In the year of drought it shows no distress, but still produces fruit.” (New American Bible, Revised Edition)
Since the day I learned about my husband’s “opportunity to seek work elsewhere,” I’ve had the blessing of having my roots tested. Unemployment and financial insecurity are the heat and the year of drought, for us, that Jeremiah spoke about. Though we’ve had our ups and downs, I continue to see the fruits we are producing.
Both my husband and I have leaned into service and volunteer opportunities, both in our parish and in our community. We are purposeful about our time together and enjoying the gift of daily lunches. My husband has taken over some of the household responsibilities to free up more of my time for writing.
Most importantly, we are using this time to grow closer to each other through Christ. Typically we make it to one daily Mass each week. We prayed a 56 day Rosary novena. Through it all, we focused on the blessings and gifts, of which there were no shortages.
The best fruit that has come from this situation is the creation of my LLC, the first big step toward publishing my new series of Catholic Children’s Chapter Books: Adventures with the Saints. So what did we select for its name? Rooted River Press. Because as long as our roots reach out to the river, no drought or heat will stop us from bearing fruit.
