Adventures With the Saints
First Place, Children’s Book Series 2024, Catholic Media Association
In this series, for children ages 6-10, three siblings travel back in time to meet a saint who teaches them about God and our faith. In each book, they encounter a present-day issue before meeting the saint, and the story ends with the children applying the lesson to their everyday lives. This series is not about teaching the lives of the saints but rather a single, applicable lesson from these holy men and women that children can use in their daily lives.
Book 1: Saint Joseph - Joshua is a seven-year-old foster child who moves in with the Martin family. They seem really nice, but Joshua isn’t sure if his new parents can love him as much as their biological children. With his new brother and sister, Luke and Becca, the three kids go on a special journey and meet Saint Joseph at the time of Jesus’ birth. Can Saint Joseph teach Joshua, Luke, and Becca a lesson about love and adoption? Will Joshua ever fit in with his new family?
Book 2: Saint Thérèse of Lisieux - Joshua, Luke, and Becca are enjoying summer when an elderly neighbor falls and hurts herself. The kids desperately want to help, but they are told over and over that they are too young to help. They go on a special journey to meet Saint Thérèse of Lisieux. She seems like just a simple nun, but maybe she has an important lesson for the kids to learn. Will they ever find a way to help their neighbor friend?
Book 3: Saint John Bosco - Summer is over, and Joshua is going to his brand-new school. He feels so nervous about starting somewhere new, and he’s not sure if he’ll get lost or if he will make any friends. Luke, Becca, and Joshua go on a special journey and meet Saint John Bosco - a priest who juggles and does acrobatics! What could this quirky priest be able to teach the kids? Will Joshua be ok on his first day?
Book 4: Saint Joan of Arc - Joshua and Luke are playing at the park with their friend Nathan when bullies steal Nathan’s hat. The boys walk away because they know fighting is wrong. Now, the park doesn’t seem fun anymore, and they all feel sad about Nathan’s hat. Later that day, Luke, Becca, and Joshua go on a special journey and meet Saint Joan of Arc - a teenager who was a soldier for God! What can this special saint teach the kids about dealing with bullies? Will they ever be able to play at that park again?
